69: Fail

Could this be Frontier's next mascot?

This week on the Diatribe, we discuss the fallibility of Colorado’s direct file law, the selection of Frontier’s new mascot (will it stink?), and Mayor Hancock’s “welcome to Denver” messages for the DIA train.

5280 senior editor Natasha Gardner joins Vanessa, Joel, and Jared in the studio (with Julian and Ron both behind the glass) to school us in “direct file,” which allows district attorneys to “unilaterally decide when to criminally prosecute kids as adults.” In “Direct Fail,” Gardner digs deep into the issue, which Joel also tackled for Westword back in 2010. Our verdict? We’re with Natasha: Direct file needs a serious fix, which the Colorado legislature just might do this year.

We lighten up in the second part of the show, when Joel adds a new candidate to the current 18 vying to become the next mascot for Frontier Airlines. Finally, we look to Jared, the world’s leading expert on DIA conspiracy theories, for his thoughts on the latest “welcome to Denver” audio messages for the airport’s train system—which continue to ignore DIA’s claims to fame.
